Build strength, coordination and balance attending our falls prevention day program

Arcadia Pittwater’s falls prevention day program is designed to prevent falls and assist with recovery from any fall-related injuries.

Our individually tailored program focuses on building strength, coordination and balance while incorporating safety strategies to promote independence and reduce the risk of falls. We also have a falls prevention group, which is designed to improve your knowledge of falls prevention strategies.

About the program

Our falls prevention day rehabilitation program is led by our multidisciplinary team, which includes physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, hydrotherapists, occupational therapists and nursing staff. As part of this program, you will also have regular clinical reviews with a rehabilitation specialist.

This program, which is offered on a sessional basis on set days and times a week, is suitable for people:

  • who have had a recent fall-related injury or illness
  • who have had an exacerbation of a condition causing balance problems
  • who have a persisting or worsening disability and dependency due to symptoms related to other conditions which are causing balance and safety issues

Falls prevention programs are available as either inpatient programs or day programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does day rehabilitation involve?
We will arrange an initial consultation with a rehabilitation specialist to assess your needs and enrol you in a program. Your day rehabilitation program is likely to include two to three sessions a week. Each session will run for between one and a half to two hours. Your doctor will discuss your recommended therapies with you, and you will meet with your rehabilitation specialist throughout your program.
Do I need a referral to access a rehabilitation program?
A referral is required from your GP or specialist to access one of our day rehabilitation programs. You will be assessed by our rehabilitation specialist once your referral has been processed.
How do I dress and what do I bring to a rehabilitation session?
  • comfortable clothes for exercise
  • suitable covered footwear
  • a water bottle
  • towel and swimming costume for hydrotherapy
What are the fees and charges for day rehabilitation?
If you have private health cover, most funds cover 100% of the program – meaning there is often no-gap payment required. Our team will check these details with your health fund prior to your commencement in your program. We will let you know if there are any out-of-pocket expenses. For example, some health funds charge an excess or co-payment if you have not had any other hospital admissions in the current year. Other options for payment include self-funding, Department Veterans’ Affairs, Comprehensive Third Party and Work Cover.
Do you provide assistance with transport?
We may be able to provide transport to and from the hospital – depending on your location – for a small cost. Our administration team can help with any transport requirements.
What are the hours of operation for the rehabilitation program?
Our day rehabilitation programs operate Monday to Friday between 8.00am-4.00pm.

Our wellness program enables you to continue your exercise program

You can continue your exercise at the end of your rehabilitation program by attending our wellness program, which is supervised independent exercise for one hour sessions in either the gym or the hydrotherapy pool.
