Build strength and function on our orthopaedic day rehabilitation program

Arcadia Pittwater’s day orthopaedic rehabilitation program provides a personalised rehabilitation program for people following hip or knee replacements, trauma or fractures.

The program – which is offered on a sessional basis on set days and times a week – is delivered by our experienced multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, hydrotherapists, rehabilitation specialists and nurses. An individualised treatment plan is developed for each person based on their individual needs and goals.

Our team will work with you to help build strength, improve range of joint movement, improve walking quality and tolerance, and improve balance to help promote independence and reach your optimal capability.

Hear Nick’s story

Nick Shalley did his orthopaedic rehabilitation at Arcadia Pittwater following a double knee replacement – participating in a daily program of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

He was referred to the hospital by his surgeon and also received personal recommendations from friends. Nick visited Arcadia Pittwater before his surgery to decide whether to do his post-op rehab in a hospital or at home. He said the facilities and the care and expertise of staff made the decision an easy one. Listen to the story of Nick’s rehab journey back to full mobility and independence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does day rehabilitation involve?
We will arrange an initial consultation with a rehabilitation specialist to assess your needs and enrol you in a program. Your day rehabilitation program is likely to include two to three sessions a week. Each session will run for between one and a half to two hours. Your doctor will discuss your recommended therapies with you, and you will meet with your rehabilitation specialist throughout your program.
Do I need a referral to access a rehabilitation program?
A referral is required from your GP or specialist to access one of our day rehabilitation programs. You will be assessed by our rehabilitation specialist once your referral has been processed.
How do I dress and what do I bring to a rehabilitation session?
  • comfortable clothes for exercise
  • suitable covered footwear
  • a water bottle
  • towel and swimming costume for hydrotherapy
What are the fees and charges for day rehabilitation?
If you have private health cover, most funds cover 100% of the program – meaning there is often no-gap payment required. Our team will check these details with your health fund prior to your commencement in your program. We will let you know if there are any out-of-pocket expenses. For example, some health funds charge an excess or co-payment if you have not had any other hospital admissions in the current year. Other options for payment include self-funding, Department Veterans’ Affairs, Comprehensive Third Party and Work Cover.
Do you provide assistance with transport?
We may be able to provide transport to and from the hospital – depending on your location – for a small cost. Our administration team can help with any transport requirements.
What are the hours of operation for the rehabilitation program?
Our day rehabilitation programs operate Monday to Friday between 8.00am-4.00pm.

Our wellness program enables you to continue your exercise program

You can continue your exercise at the end of your rehabilitation program via our day wellness program, which is supervised independent exercise for one hour sessions in either the gym or the hydrotherapy pool.
